A lovingly restored fisherman’s cottage located in the sought after bay of Porto Pim, Casa Volta do Mar offers self catered accommodation with a stunning multi-levelled garden up the side of Moute Queimado, with views of the beach, Monte da Guia and Atlantic ocean to the right and to the left, the harbour in Horta where you can watch the sailing boats travelling in and out.

Right at the gates to the city of Horta, the geological structures of Monte Queimado and Monte da Guia form one of the three natural reserves on Faial island, encompassing the marine protected area Baía das Caldeirinhas. The landscape is composed of volcanic cones and craters, grassy slopes, cliffs, bays, inlets, rocky beaches, and marine caves. The area is a main habitat of grey dunes and prized endemic vegetation, such as Tree Heath “Erica azorica” and the native Azorean Candleberry Tree “Myrica faya”. It also serves as haven for birds such as the Cory’s Shearwater, the Common Tern, and the Grey Heron.
Monte Queimado is named so due to its black, ‘burnt’ sides and Monte da Guia gets its name from the religious figure, Our Lady of Guia, the patron saint of then fishermen on Faial, whose Chapel is located at the peak.
