Canyoning


Flores is said to be the best Azorean island for canyoning because of its high waterfalls and steep cliffs. Around 50 routes exist on the island, adventurous and wild. WestCanyon offers tours all year round for beginners to advanced and provide all the gear required.

Yoga


Your host Jaen offers Kundalini Yoga lessons every Thursday at 18:00 at Casa do Povo in Fajã Grande. The lessons only go ahead if student confirm their attendance, so if you want to go, contact Jaen on +351 969 640 810. The price is donation based which you can leave in the box provided.


Scuba Diving


Scuba Diving is currently unavailable on Flores due to the facilities being used by the company who are rebuilding the port in Lajes.


Swimming


On Flores, you are able to swim in both the lakes and the ocean. There is also a hot spring on the island that runs directly into the ocean. The nature is so well preserved here on Flores you will be able to find your own private areas to laze around the ocean, jump from the cliffs and surf with the waves. Your host will happily advise you on the best areas to go and enjoy the water (we try to keep them a secret).


Museums


In Santa Cruz das Flores, the newly opened Whale Museum is giving great insights into the island history of whale hunting. Next door is the Environmental Interpretation centre where you can learn about resident and migratory birds, living beings that live in the intertidal zone and water column, cetaceans and hydrothermal vents. It is a privileged place for the promotion of scientific knowledge, enriching the experience of those who visit the Natural Park.


Boat Tours and Corvo Island Tours


Flores’ satellite island Corvo is about 10 miles (17km) to the north and is the smallest in the Azores, with a population of about 400. It is well worth a day trip in good weather. We advise you to go with Carlos Mendes on his RHIB (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat since he will show you part of the spectacular east coast of Flores. There are multiple departure from Santa Cruz each day, returning back to Santa Cruz in the afternoon afternoon. On arrival at Corvo, there will usually be a minibus waiting to take you up to the crater at a cost 5€ per person.

You can also go on the Atlantico Line ferry, but this is less fun 🙂
