Swimming

On Flores, you are able to swim in both the lakes and the ocean. There is also a hot spring on the island that runs directly into the ocean. The nature is so well preserved here on Flores you will be able to find your own private areas to laze around the ocean, jump from the cliffs and surf with the waves. Your host will happily advise you on the best areas to go and enjoy the water (we try to keep them a secret).

Museums

In Santa Cruz das Flores, the newly opened Whale Museum is giving great insights into the island history of whale hunting. Next door is the Environmental Interpretation centre where you can learn about resident and migratory birds, living beings that live in the intertidal zone and water column, cetaceans and hydrothermal vents. It is a privileged place for the promotion of scientific knowledge, enriching the experience of those who visit the Natural Park

Trips to Corvo Island

Flores’ satellite island Corvo is about 10 miles (17km) to the north and is the smallest in the Azores, with a population of about 400. It is well worth a day trip in good weather. We advise you to go with Carlos Mendes on his RHIB (Rigid Hulled Inflatable Boat since he will show you part of the spectacular east coast of Flores. He is contactable on the following number +351 292 590100.

The cost is about €30 per person. Departure from Santa Cruz is usually about 9:30am, returning back to Santa Cruz mid afternoon. On arrival at Corvo, there will usually be a minibus waiting to take you up to the crater at a cost 5€ per person.

You can also go on the Atlantico Line ferry, but this is less fun and cost only a little less at €20 for at return ticket.
